Javra’s Endurance Through Challenging Times

Javra Software responded swiftly to Nepal’s 2015 earthquake, providing critical aid to affected communities while prioritizing employee safety. Their long-term efforts focused on rebuilding, including supporting children’s education and ensuring a secure workplace. Reflecting on the 2015 Earthquake: A Decade of Resilience Ten years ago, in 2015, Nepal was struck by a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake, causing widespread destruction and leaving thousands in desperate need of help. Amid the chaos, Javra Software stood in solidarity with the affected communities, urging everyone to stay calm and prioritize safety.   As we mark a decade since that fateful day, we take a moment to reflect—not just on the loss and hardship, but also on the strength, unity, and resilience that emerged in its aftermath.  Immediate Response and Relief Efforts We received numerous offers from people wanting to help. In response, Javra Software staff purchased food and essential materials in Nepal and distributed them directly to the affected communities.  Our relief efforts extended to victims outside Kathmandu. We provided a family with rice, lentils, cooking essentials, water purification tablets, and tents to victims in village community.  Ongoing Support and Social Engagement Javra Software has long been committed to making a positive impact in Nepal. In the wake of the devastating 2015 earthquake, and with a history of supporting social causes, our COO Shanti Pant had already established a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to address critical issues.   Following the 2015 earthquake, which claimed nearly 9,000 lives and left over 21,000 injured, our CSR program focused on supporting children’s education in Nepal. Many children, especially girls, were forced to drop out of school due to a lack of basic supplies and proper clothing. At that time, our CSR efforts reached around 1,000 children across five different locations, ensuring they could continue their education despite the challenging circumstances.  Javra’s Experience During the Earthquake When the earthquake struck, our employees acted swiftly to ensure their safety. Thankfully, there were no casualties within Javra, though some employees were affected and had to temporarily relocate. To support them, we provided paid leave for trauma recovery and assisted in relocating affected team members to safer areas. Despite these challenges, we remained committed to our work and quickly formed the Javra Relief Team to provide immediate aid to the hardest-hit regions.  Every day, we distributed truckloads of essential supplies, including:  Challenges in the Field The scarcity of food and relief materials made distribution challenging. As desperation grew among the victims, tensions began to rise. During our efforts, our team faced difficult situations, including moments of heightened frustration from the community. At one point, villagers, driven by hunger, became agitated, and we had to call the police.   However, their presence was limited, and the atmosphere remained tense. Despite these challenges, our team worked closely with the villagers, fostering cooperation and ensuring a fair distribution of aid. By listening to their concerns and calming the situation, we were able to make sure that the necessary supplies reached those who needed them most.  Aftershocks and Continued Safety Measures Even as people began to relax, aftershocks continued every 5–10 minutes, causing renewed fear and uncertainty. Out of concern for our employees, Javra Software relocated to an earthquake-resistant building to ensure their safety. Some employees sustained injuries, including broken bones, but we provided necessary medical support and continued our relief efforts.
